The clock tower was built in the 16th century, first as a watchtower to protect the village, then as a prison in safer times.
Topped by a wrought-iron campanile, listed as a historic monument, the façade features a clock. Inside the campanile is a highly accurate sundial dating from 1760 with the motto "Ruris et urbis normal laborum" (I regulate the work of the family and the fields) and a bell cast in 1712 to celebrate the victory of an interminable lawsuit begun in 1346 between the villagers and the Dukes of Blacas (co-lords of Aups with the King of France), bearing the inscription "Je suis la joie de tout le monde" ("I am the joy of everyone").
