Guided tour: La Chartreuse de la Verne
A stroll through history during the visit of this Carthusian monastery, which became a monastery, and whose construction was spread out from the 12th to the 18th century.
The Carthusian monastery is built on successive terraces. After the monumental portal of the 17th century stands the vast courtyard of obediences, formed by the first two bodies of buildings.
The new chapel, wonderfully restored, is to the west.
The large cloister, or domus superior, is at the end of the spur.
The cells were arranged around the large cloister; each of them, equipped with running water, reproduced the organization of the monastery, at once oratory, cloister, scriptorium, refectory, kitchen, dormitory, workshop and vegetable garden.
Classified as a historical monument in 1921, it has been restored.
